The final of the delayed Seniors KO Trophy took place today between Peter Jackson (sandwich shop man) and Pete Leskovac.
After a 1st round bye Peter Jackson playing off 28 reached the final by defeating Bob Helley, Colin Hayhurst and Alan Low, whilst Pete Leskovac’s journey playing off 20 was to beat David Farnell, Alan Greenwood, Colin Pitman and Andrew Haigh.
The final was ably refereed by Seniors skipper Andrew and was kindly supported by spectators, Bob Helley, Colin Hayhurst, Ian Lightbody & Mike Davies.
To summarise the match it would be fair to say that it wasn’t a classic with both players having had better days, but thankfully the crowd stayed till the end to witness a winner. It certainly looked like being all over very quickly as PJ went 3 up after 3 holes, however PL won the next 3 holes and amazingly by the 12th had turned it round to go 3 up himself! ‘Shot holes’ on 15 & 16 were won by PJ to reduce PL’s lead to just 1 hole going down the 17th.
The drama ended on the par 5 17th green as PL sank his putt for a 5 to win the hole and the match and the trophy by a score of 2 & 1.
Both players will be duly recognised at the Seniors Xmas lunch on Wednesday 18 December
